Finland, Midsummer 2016
How did I get here?
I left Finland, my home country, for the first time at the age of 14 to live in the Far East with my family. Since then I’ve moved around a fair bit, finally settling down in the UK in January 2014.
While I feel strongly about my Nordic roots, I’ve developed an appreciation for cultural diversity over the years and I find London to be an ideal living environment for me (at least for now), being the cultural melting pot it is. I truly enjoy the freedom to simply be myself in this city where everyone looks and sounds a little different – and where that’s ok!
Admittedly, living in central London, I do miss having nature at my doorstep, or having a pet, not to mention long rides to the forest on horseback… but you can’t have everything, right?
Best to try and make the most of every stage of life!
Role of fitness & wellness in my life
Active lifestyle has always been a way of living for me. I started practicing classical ballet when I was three years old and dance will always be close to my heart. I enjoy trying out new things and taking on new challenges, but when it comes to my everyday training I focus on workout routines that most support my overall wellbeing and which are feasible and sustainable with my lifestyle. No one is at her best all day everyday, but the right kind of workout helps to keep me energised – feeling fast and strong. I love boot camp style HIIT sessions where I can push my limits and clear the mind. For balance, yoga helps me to stop, breathe and be present.
I’m not a wizard in the kitchen but I am interested in nutrition as it’s key to being, feeling and looking healthy. I don’t follow any specific diets but try to opt for foods that make me feel good and satisfied as opposed to heavy and sluggish. Reading and learning about nutrition is fun but personally “trial and error” has helped me figure out what works for me. For portion control, I’ve invented an easy guideline of “maximum 2/3 of what he’s having”!
The only thing I have completely cut out of my diet already years ago is alcohol – it just wasn’t doing any favours for me!
Travelling is another major passion of mine. Especially active holidays are my thing: Whether it’s hiking, scuba diving, yoga – I’m up for it! Just don’t expect me to make it past 11pm, unless of course it’s a race to summit by sunrise!
City Girl all the way
I’m a finance nerd (MSc. Finance) in disguise, no doubt. Unsurprisingly then, I work for an investment bank in the City. In addition to the geeky stuff, I find the cycle of chasing-winning (or losing)- executing deals thrilling. Work is for me is another way to challenge and develop myself. I enjoy the adrenaline rush and – on the best of days – the feeling of accomplishment. This business is a competition in many ways, a constant race, which does get a bit exhausting at times. I take full responsibility for my own wellness, but oh boy is the struggle real…
“Think of your workouts as important meetings you have with yourself. Bosses don’t cancel.”
And I’m the boss of my life 😉
The blog
So that (above) was a bit about my life until now. What comes next should be a bit more home-bound, pink and fluffy as this blog is intended to be about me taking the next BIG step in my life and starting a family with the love of my life.
Should be an interesting voyage, for us at least. I hope you enjoy reading about it too!
xoxoxo,
