NYC – Change of scenery

Holidays are generally great. But if there is anything that can make a holiday slightly less great, it’s work. Unfortunately our trip to our friends’ wedding in New York came at a very bad time work-wise for both of us… But despite being pretty stressed, tired and distracted, we did enjoy our city break!

Change of scenery can be refreshing and we did have some quality time together sightseeing, eating out and watching the Rangers at the Madison Square Garden.

In fairness we also had some lower quality time being stuck in a snowstorm for 24h with all flights cancelled and the whole city dead quiet, BUT overall, it was still a nice trip. And the wedding of course was glamorous! Who wouldn’t love a wedding anyway, let alone a black tie big city wedding?!

As we’d been to New York just last May, we could take it a bit easier this time, focusing on each other and good food. Amidst all those meals, we also squeezed in three gym workouts to complement our daily walkabouts. I love training during holidays because then my energy levels are just something else! Could also be thanks to all those carbs lol!

At the gym I did a simple full body circuit with free weights and a sweaty cardio session.

If I’m on a short trip I don’t worry too much about what I eat. I LOVE brunch and we found lovely brunch places for each morning and I didn’t hesitate to have things like buttermilk pancakes, which are not part of my normal diet. To be honest, they don’t make you feel great but boy are they delicious!

As a comparison of my normal diet and holiday diet, see the below pictures. Both delicious, but clearly more indulgent and less nutrient packed on holiday. But that’s ok, it’s all about balance!

At home:

On holiday (yum!):

And before we knew it, after pulling a red eye, we were back at our desks in London. Phew. I need another holiday.

Instead, I got back to work only to jump on a transaction kick off call on the same day. Dear me. Here we go again.

xoxoxo,

Sini
