It’s a girl!

Today was our big day, the anomaly scan! I was so nervous my tummy was in knots. I was so on edge with anticipation that I literally jumped when my baby gave me a good kick in mid-tummy while I was sitting on the train going to work. It was as if she was telling me “get a grip mummy, I’m just fine!”

And she was… our perfect little princess.

We had a late afternoon appointment which meant I spent hours at my desk watching the clock tick. So. Slowly.

But finally it was time to leave and head to the hospital! I had a chocolate on the tube hoping the sugar would wake the baby up. During my last scan our baby was upside down and sleeping which wasn’t helpful when trying to get her into the right position for taking measurements. Well, that plan sort of backfired – she was so hyper active that we struggled to get the measurements from all of the wiggling! The sonographer even asked me if I had had a big lunch…awkward!

We had two doctors performing the scan. They measured our baby and estimated the foetal weight to be 319g. Placenta was posterior and high, which has helped me to feel the baby’s movements so early on, I believe. The doctors also checked: head, brain, face, spine, neck and skin, chest, four-chamber [heart] view and great vessels, abdominal wall, gastro-intestinal tract, kidneys and bladder, extremities, skeleton.

After about thirty minutes we still had not been able to get a good side profile picture of the face and so our doctor asked us if we wanted to go for a walk and come back in forty minutes and we could try again. The alternative was to book a new appointment for a rescan. We went for a walk and had better luck on the second try and we were able to complete the scan.

Summary of findings: “No obvious abnormality detected at this stage of gestation”. In other words, all good! 🙂

And yes, it’s a baby girl. We will have a daughter <3

xoxoxo,

Sini
