Babymoon vol. 3 – throwback to the Greek Islands

It’s been a grey and rainy September Sunday. A perfect day to go through holiday pictures and look back at those happy sunny days in Greece 🙂

I didn’t share much from our second week as I was busy relaxing but better late than never! We spent seven nights in total at Milos (six days) and we had this tiny Matiz for rent for four of them:

Considering how narrow most streets were in the villages, a small car was the right choice! I would definitely recommend hiring a car (or a more exiting vehicle if you are not pregnant) in Milos as the island is all about the amazing beaches. The natural beauty in the colours and rock formations blows you away and the waters are crystal clear and turquoise. How accessible the beaches are varies and because of my condition we spent most time on organised beaches where you could (cheaply) hire sun beds and umbrellas and buy drinks and snacks. We visited many for the scenery but to keep this mama cool and comfortable, we spent most hours at the popular spots.

My favourite beach was Provatas Beach with its multi-coloured rocks, shallow waters and golden sand:

A famous beach we did not visit was Kleftiko which can only be reached by sea. We had left our planned sailing tour for our last day at Milos to go see the said-to-be impressive rock formations but unfortunately the winds were so strong that we ended up not going. After the third boat had turned us away, recommending not to go (since I’m pregnant), baby’s Daddy made an executive decision that we would not take any risks and will stay at the beach. A shame but maybe next time!

We headed back to Santorini, this time to the Western side of the island, Oia, where we would spend our final three days. The speedboat was just as uncomfortable as on our way to Milos, 90 miserable minutes, ugh…

Our hotel was on the Caldera, overlooking magnificent scenery and 10-minute walk from Oia centre. Perfect.

In Oia you have beautiful views, sunshine, tasty food and… tourists, lots of tourists. We spent three days there and I would say that was enough. In my opinion the best thing to do if staying in Oia is to cough up the money and stay at one of the hotels with the sunset Caldera view and a great pool for relaxing because elsewhere it’s not very relaxing. On the narrow one-way main road there is a constant flow of tourist busses and the village -as charming as it is – is mainly made of shops and restaurants for tourists. I found it lacked that authentic Greek feel which I loved in Milos.

Our hotel was definitely not one of the top end accommodations on the island but ticked all the boxes for us. We spent most of our time relaxing by the pool and only ventured out after sunset, which we could admire from our balcony. I love reading and managed to finish four books during this holiday, which is luxury as during the work week at home I’m too tired to read before going to bed.

And one obligatory picture of my travel companion below, who is too handsome not to get any space in my blog 🙂 Nothing beats travelling with your best friend and I already miss spending every day with him now that work annoyingly cuts in during week days.

Some time ago I mentioned we wanted to check-out Santorini also as a potential wedding venue. I’m convinced that the wedding photos taken there would have been the most beautiful, but we didn’t feel it was for us, all things considered. We would love a small and intimate wedding on a beach and a relaxed reception with our nearest and dearest. We have to consider logistics and cost to make this dream a reality, however. The search continues…

All in all, I could not have hoped for a more memorable and romantic babymoon. I’m overjoyed we got to do this and will treasure the pictures and memories! I think there is a high chance we will have a little intruder on our honeymoon and if that’ll be the case, I’ll be particularly happy we had our babymoon just for the two of us.

xoxoxo,

Sini
