We are getting very pregnant over here!
It’s been another busy busy week and while I’ve been preoccupied (primarily) with work, my bump inhabitant has been busy growing.
On Thursday I had my 34-week midwife appointment – in addition to the usual checks my blood was drawn to check haemoglobin levels. My belly is feeling super tight and mostly pretty uncomfortable, to be honest (the bump is cute though!!). The baby is still head down, engaged and has sunk low into my pelvis. Her back is still on my left side and she’s been kicking me in the ribs on the right side all week (I must be getting some internal bruising soon haha!).
Having examined me, my midwife was of the view that our baby could come early – as early as 35-37 weeks! She seemed to think that the baby’s position and my body constantly pushing her lower down would indicate that she’ll be here soon. Who knows but I’ll prepare for an early arrival just in case! I have finalised my birth plan and the hospital bag is almost ready now too.
I’m happy things are progressing well but her being so low now has caused quite a bit of discomfort in my pelvis and groin. I wouldn’t call it pain, apart from occasional twinges or shooting pains, so it’s ok but doesn’t encourage me to move much… This has been the first week during my pregnancy that I have not done any exercise but walking!
I have not gone to the gym partly due to me being very busy at work and having been exhausted in the evenings to the extent that I actually took Friday off. Luckily I still have plenty of unused holidays. We had a new deal launch on Tuesday in addition to which I’m preparing my handover and am training a new joiner. And then there are the aches described above and seriously constant Braxton Hicks contractions which make me want to teleport myself from my office to sofa at home every night…
So not super comfortable but everything is still progressing normally which is the most important thing! My bump measured 33cm, continuing on the -1cm vs. curve trajectory, which is perfectly fine. Baby’s heart rate was strong and she keeps being very active, around the clock. Hiccups are daily too!
I’m a bit tired now as a result of both being very busy and having slept a bit poorer lately. I’m not entirely sure why but during some nights I sleep perfectly soundly and sometimes I get up two to three times a night which makes me exhausted the next day. I don’t know what wakes me up, but when I do I feel like I need to get up. And so I get up, go get a drink and use the toilet. Fortunately I do fall back asleep easily.
My appetite has reduced somewhat which is new! To keep up my energy during the day I’ve just eaten whatever goes down – mainly fruit and carbs. In the evening we usually have a healthy high protein meal at home, courtesy of my fiancé. Other pregnancy symptoms are the same as before: slightly leaking boobs (colostrum) and feeling hot.
I’ve somehow managed to find a bit of time to make progress on the baby blanket, which I’m knitting ☺️ I actually find this new hobby very relaxing!
xoxoxo,
