14 weeks – How are we feeling?

So far, I’m loving the second trimester!! <3

In addition to physically feeling better than during the first trimester, I can finally be openly happy about our pregnancy having told our friends and colleagues about it. I don’t enjoy keeping secrets, especially not something as huge as this!

Imagine meeting a friend for the first time in awhile and when she asks you how you’ve been, you reply “Oh you know, same old, same old…” when you really want to shout the big news from the rooftops!

Of course the miscarriage risk was the main reason for keeping the pregnancy a secret, but also I didn’t want the word to spread to my workplace before I was ready to discuss the matter.

We could not have waited for much longer anyway as I’m (finally!) starting to look pregnant. At least to people who know me. I suppose it’s a bit suspicious when someone who’s all about the gym and healthy eating suddenly just grows a belly. Turns our some speculation had taken place and so it was good to “come clean” 🙂

I’m absolutely in love with my mini-bump!

I wake up looking like I just had a big burger, but when I actually start eating or drinking it all adds to the bump and makes it clearer what’s up – thank goodness! I have no issue with putting on weight for the baby but I’d be lying if I’d say it didn’t bother me at all to look like I’ve just let myself go… (I know I know, it shouldn’t matter!)

Here’s a little progress picture – not a huge difference yet but they say good things take time…

Excuse the bed head! These photos were taken first thing in the morning before the bloat kicks in to give a more accurate and comparable picture of the baby belly growth. So far I’ve put on 1.3kg (about 3lbs) since my first midwife appointment at 8 weeks, which isn’t much but I’ve understood many women don’t gain weight during first trimester. I don’t normally weigh myself but they say it’s good to monitor to stay “on the curve” of healthy weight gain so I plan to step on the scales once in a month or so.

I mentioned that physically I’m feeling much better and I’m back on track with my exercise routine. That being said, it’s not all plain sailing – I’m still pregnant! I have more energy, yes, but not all day everyday. Some days I really struggle and on those days I go straight home from work to rest. I’m also still very hungry and eat more than usual.

Aches and pains are of course part of even normal healthy pregnancies. In the last week I’ve been increasingly getting headaches and round ligament pain. The stomach pain is either sharp and localised or throbbing. Apparently now that the baby is growing quickly in size, the round ligament around the uterus is getting stretched which causes the pain. So perfectly normal! Might just avoid sudden movements that feel a bit “ouch”…

My next midwife appointment (first at the local children’s centre) is in 2.5 weeks time. Weeks seem to just fly by now!

xoxoxo,

Sini

Ps. Thank you so much for the encouragement and lovely messages during this first week my blog’s been up and running! <3 <3
