We are a family – she has arrived!

Just a quick update and a couple of blurry pictures from our baby bubble!

On Saturday evening December 2nd 2017 at 5:44pm, our daughter Maia Olivia was born, making us a family… ❤️

Words cannot describe how I feel – I literally well up every time I look at her sweet little face! I don’t know how I have deserved this kind of happiness and blessing but I’ll try to be worthy and be the best mum to our daughter!!

Newborn Maia Olivia

Measuring 2550g and 47cm, our tiny but healthy girl made her grand entrance to this world five days before her due date. My labour was intense, painful and a bit scary (for a first timer) but uncomplicated and we are recovering very well! I could not have done it without my fiancé who was my lifeline and way more helpful than the midwives (no offence, they were professionals of course). Just when I thought I could not love him more…

We stayed at the hospital for two nights and got home on Monday evening. The reason for a longer stay was our struggle with feeding Maia. Initially she would latch on but not suck and I’d have to hand express and top up her feed with a syringe. Being a small baby she gets tired quickly and only breastfeeds for very short periods but by day two the frequency was enough for her to get nourished and so we were discharged. On the downside the frequent feeds have meant no sleep for me… Today we will have a home visit from a lady from the local breastfeeding support group to help us with the correct technique.

Even newborn clothes are too big for our mini!

We are very happy with her progress so far! Two community midwives paid a home visit yesterday and they were happy with both my recovery and Maia’s. I only suffer from sore breasts as the milk has come in and some tummy cramps from the uterus shrinking, but otherwise I feel good! They will come again on Thursday to weigh Maia and to take a blood test from her heel (testing for four different hings, I can’t remember which). Hopefully she will not have lost more than the “usual” 10% of birth weight. Maia is having regular wet and dirty nappies which usually is a sign of adequate feeding! And yes, I’m becoming totally obsessed with her poo, but I hear this is normal for worrying new mums looking for signs of the baby feeding well enough.

I’ll follow up with a birth story later on. You’ll find more frequent updates on my Instagram which is easier to update with just left hand!

The baby blues has not kicked in yet and I’m still on cloud nine!!

xoxoxo,

Sini
