Looking for The One

So it turns out that in addition to the shortage of eligible bachelors, London also suffers from a shortage of family houses. Ever felt like “all the best ones are either taken or way out of your league?” Yep, been there.

After (finally!) finding my Mr. Right after what I can only call a series of “trial-and-errors” I thought the swiping left/right was finally over. I thought wrong. I’ve only jumped on to the next challenge – finding my Dream Home. Rightmove has become my new Tinder.

Having spent yet another Saturday at house viewings, the emotional rollercoaster got me thinking how similar this process is to dating. Starting from the initial attraction, the way a property can catch your eye – yes, this one I like! Followed by the careful assessment of “is it within my reach (in my budget)? Then, you’ve got to be quick and show your interest, but cautiously not to appear too keen and end up overpaying. And if it’s worth it, there will be competition to fight off!

If you are lucky, congratulations, your offer has been accepted! You start getting to know each other… dig a little deeper, properly assess your target. Is this really a worthy investment? Is there that long term potential? Oh, the enquiries, the surveys…

Maybe the sneaky b***ard was still marketing on the side and got a better offer in the midst of your process and before you know it, you’re left with some sunk cost and a sour taste in your mouth. Or perhaps during the purchase process you find out something lying underneath the surface that puts you off. A deal breaker.

And you start again. Go back on Rightmove. But this time, at least you know (even) better what it is you are looking for.

Hopefully, one day, I’ll find The One. The One that doesn’t feel like a compromise. The One I want to grow old with. The perfect match.

I keep looking, because I know, as I knew when looking for him, it will be worth it in the end.

xoxoxo,

Sini
